Booked to stay due to being a short drive from scafell pike. Was instantly made to feel welcome by the lovely staff, so friendly!! Our dog flint is a little nervous guy and it was lovely how the staff welcomed him but didn't press his friendship..but he still got treats 🥰 We ate at the pub and the food was delicious, over faced ourselves a little and with the really decent portions we struggled to finish it all but was great value for money. Rooms were nice, we only had a bath in ours but after a 6hr very wet and windy mountain walk the bath could not have been more welcome to warm through. Breakfast was lovely, nice selection of options. Planning another visit in better weather to scafell pike and will most definitely be staying here again.

Loved the location of this hotel as it was near to all the places we wanted to visit. Near to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, Muncaster Castle, Wastwater and Scafell Pike, and St Bees. The owners and staff were all amazing . They gave us such a warm welcome and looked after us from start to finish. The food was excellent.. Lovely garden with a river , just wish it had been warm enough to sit out. Very pleasant walk behind the hotel too.

The warm welcome from Karen and the beautiful beer garden were the highlights. We really enjoyed our stay, only one night before we walked Scafell Pike. Hotel was comfortable and clean. Special thanks to Karen for laying out some extra breakfast bits for us as we were up and out too early for the kitchen! Really appreciated it, thank you.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious with a nice ensuite. We loved the hands on approach of the owners Clive and Mel. They really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Loved the riverside beer garden. The food at dinner and breakfast was delicious and very good value for money. Kaz the barlady come everything was amazing and she was working Dawn till dusk covering for a poorly colleague. She was lovely and a credit to the place. We had such a chilled out and enjoyable stay and would love to return soon.

Nice view, comfortable bed, very quiet. Good breakfast, but would be improved with real coffee. Good evening food, friendly, good beer. It won't suit people who like airport hotels but for those who like personality and maybe a slight quirkiness will like it.

Really friendly welcome from the owners Mel & Clive, and the Sunday roast in the evening was lovely. My bedroom was cosy, with a bath in the en suite and the wifi was good. I had to leave the next morning before breakfast officially started. I happened to mention it to Mel and she said “no worries at all”. There was a cold breakfast laid out for me when I came downstairs, with the use of a toaster and offer/tea and juice available. I really appreciated the flexibility😊

The hosts were absolutely fantastic! Clive and Mel were very welcoming! We also loved that the bar/hotel was extremely dog friendly, even with our nervous dog! . The beer garden was fantastic! We enjoyed some lovely food as well as a great ale selection to choose from! We will definitely return!

The Location was perfect for us as we were pottering up the western Lake District. Lovely garden out the back leading down to the river. Very welcoming for the dog. Plenty of parking.

Great location, amazing beer garden, delicious food, helpful staff. Was disappointed my room didn’t have a shower until I sat in the bath.. bliss! Long time since I’d had a bath!! Great breakfast, friendly owners and staff.
